:bulletblue: Does the story have to stick to any setting?
Any bard can, and may change things.
Lets say you have a card 'boss'. You write a story about bob who is an accountant in modern times, he witnesses his bosses murder.
With only 300 words you can't do much. But if your play is accepted (and it would be in that case), you get to add another section (unless another bard interrupts - ie another bard has a card 'murder').
The bard who interrupted gets to add the next segment. Lets say that bard also has a card 'supernatural'. He may decide to write about how some sort of supernatural magic is used to bring the boss back to life. Thus further developing the setting.

So many things can change the setting.

:bulletblue: How do I Interrupt?
Interruption is easy. If a bard's submission uses an element on one of your cards, send a note with "interruption" in the subject. Specify the card, and clarify how it applies. The barkeep will notify the group of the interruption, and whether the interruption was valid. The status journal will update to reflect the interruption, and state whose turn it is. You can interrupt any bard at any time.
